It was not possible under the program prepared for this project to make a complete sanitary survey of the waters of the Interstate Sanitation District. There  are, however, several phases of such a survey that at this time are of particular interest to the Interstate Sanitation Commission.

As has been indicated in a Precious section of this report, the Commission is obliged to classify various parts of the waterways of the district as either Class A or B. This classification to a considerable extent depends upon or the predominant use the waterway either for commercial or recreational purposes, as well as upon the nature and use of the shore front. For this reason, it was considered desirable to obtain some data as to the movement of vessels in various sections of the harbor in order to have spme measure of the commercial vessel traffic.

In certain areas, these vessel discharge daily considerable quantities of sewage and other wastes which at the present time cannot be readily controlled or eliminated.
