Kimarie Yap
Environmental Analyst

Kimarie joined IEC as an Environmental Analyst in May 2021. She coordinates IEC’s Long Island Sound monitoring activities, which include the Western Long Island Sound Monitoring Program and Save the Sound’s Unified Water Study. Her field and lab work duties include measuring water quality using a YSI sonde across the Long Island Sound and embayment stations, collecting and preparing nutrient samples for analysis, and analyzing samples for chlorophyll-a to assess algal biomass. Kimarie earned her B.S. in Environmental Science with a minor in Social Justice Theory from St. John’s University,and an M.S. in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Ecology from Fordham University. Her master’s thesis was on harmful algal blooms in urban water bodies in Queens, NY.
