Facility Overview

Since October 1994, the Commission’s laboratory has been located on the campus of the College of Staten Island (CSI) in Staten Island, New York. The laboratory primarily analyzes non-potable water samples collected throughout the Commission’s District. In April of 2015, IEC moved its headquarters to the laboratory facility in Staten Island. In October 2022, IEC plans to move to a new, 2800 square foot office and laboratory facility located at the Brooklyn Army Terminal complex on the Brooklyn Waterfront. Stay tuned for updates and pictures of our new facility!

The commission primarily analyzes non-potable water samples including effluent, influent and other samples collected from municipal and industrial effluents as part of the Commission’s facility inspections as well as ambient water samples collected during water quality monitoring surveys. In addition, the laboratory actively pursues other opportunities to provide analytical services for partners throughout the region.
