On
October 27, 2000, the President signed the federal legislation -
the last step in the process - changing the name of this agency from the Interstate Sanitation Commission (ISC)to the Interstate Environmental Commission (IEC). The name change not only brings the Commission into the
21st Century, it more accurately reflects the nature of the
Commission's mandates, mission and responsibilities that embrace
a broad range of programs and activities.
The
Interstate Environmental Commission is a joint agency of the
States of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
The IEC was established in 1936 under a Compact between
New York and New Jersey and approved by Congress.
The State of Connecticut joined the Commission in 1941.
